Boxing Kangaroo Roger Jr. cut from Tekken 7 because of animal rights activists concerns
If they’re upset about this, they need to call CPS on Heihachi Mishima.
UPDATE: Some believe that a few tweets suggest Harada may have been trolling (see them below). We don’t know if he was trolling, back-pedaling, or what. But we were never of the mind that PETA was involved. The original story (below) spoke only of Harada having concern. He even says that in his tweets. When you think about it, why would there only be concern for a kangaroo and not also bears? Take from it what you will. Do we think he was trolling? Honestly, we don’t know. But it wouldn’t be the first time.

We talked about strange and unique characters being in Tekken just a few weeks ago, didn’t we? Yes, we did. They’ve had a common place in Tekken for as long as we can remember. In Tekken 7 we even have bears that love to play volleyball and hit home runs with an Alaskan fish. That’s not even the weirdest. But unfortunately, boxing kangaroo Roger Jr. won’t be making the cut for this game.
According to Tekken project director Katsuhiro Harada, Roger Jr. was placed on the chopping block due to concerns of backlash from animal rights rights activists. He stated that the blame was a viral video of a man punching a kangaroo in the face for putting his dog in a headlock. Having seen the video, it all seemed a reasonable course of action. But not everyone saw it that way though.
“There was a video of a man’s dog being headlocked by a kangaroo, and he punched it in the face. It turned into a big problem. People were complaining about him punching a kangaroo. It seems that in the last few years there’s a lot more animal activists – even though they probably wouldn’t play our game they would still hear about that, about a kangaroo in our game being punched, and would complain about it.”
The original Roger debuted in Tekken 2 and has been a staple ever since, so this does just flat-out sucks. There’s no other way to say it. If folks are outraged about a Kangaroo being punched and beat upon in a video game, you can only wonder how they feel about a father throwing his son off a cliff. Go figure.
Hopefully Harada and his team will have a change of heart and allow the jumping boxer to join Tekken 7 as DLC. Probably not.
