CEO 2016 – Day 2: Tekken 7 Top 8 Finalists, and Poongko’s Akuma wins Tekken 7:FR Auction

Day 2 of CEO 2016 is in the books and it ended on a very high note. Tekken 7 pools began bright and early at 10am EDT and ran all day, all the way up to Top 8. The final roster looks exactly like we thought it would. There weren’t any upsets, but all that could very well happen tomorrow due to the strong competitors involved. Here are your Top 8 finalists.

Top 8 Finalists

Winners Bracket

Speedkicks (Hwoarang) vs. KoDee (Kazuya)
Circa|Anakin (Paul) vs. KIT|Lil Majin (King)

Losers Bracket

ITS|MakNificent (Dragunov, Feng) vs. NG|Reflex (Law)
NG|Obscure (Alisa) vs. Limit47 (Heihachi, Paul)

Anakin is in this tournament and has been using Paul. He is the favorite to win it all, and should he lose it would definitely be considered an upset. For the second time he has relinquished his qualifying spot in the King of the Iron Fist Tournament 2016 that takes place later this year. But now that he is sponsored, should he lose we’re sure he’ll attend another Tekken Tour event and secure a spot.

No-one expected Lil Majin to be present. He was under the radar for a long time because he signed up with the name “Syntax.”

Tekken 7: Fated Retribution Character Auction Tournament

Even though the pools were hype, they pretty much went as expected. The highlight of today the T7FR Character Auction Tournament. It was even more hype than it was at Combo Breaker, mainly because Nina was auctioned off for a record-high $205. Surprisingly, only one person had an interest in Bryan Fury, and he was auctioned off for only $1. Poongko was front and center at the auction, and we knew he was there to bid on Akuma if he were drawn from the hat (yeah, 16 characters were randomly drawn from a hat). We had hoped Akuma would be called, and he was. As soon as Poongko heard his name he stood straight with his armed raised the entire time like the Lady Liberty. He purchased Akuma for a whopping $105.

Here’s the complete breakdown.

  1. Xiaoyu $11 – Will English IV
  2. Bryan $1 – Gareth
  3. Hwoarang $27 – Speedkicks
  4. Alisa $10 – ATP|RIN
  5. Josie $21 – Tom7
  6. Gigas $50 – N8Monster
  7. Kazuya $32 – Gandido
  8. Heihachi $33 – Limit47
  9. Jack-7 $20 – Circa|Anakin
  10. Leo $23 – Party Wolf
  11. Akuma $105 – Poongko
  12. Steve $30 – VSC Ova9K
  13. Law $27 – Rick The Ruler
  14. Devil Jin $33 – Kodee
  15. King $65 – Xavier Woods PHD (Austin Creed)
  16. Nina $205 – ViciousShadi

Needless to say, Poongko won the tournament with Akuma and took home $485. Anakin took 2nd and took home $208. And just like yesterday, Akuma was placed in the limelight, but with even better opponents. Poongko ended up topping Kodee, Speedkicks and Anakin. Granted, Akuma is new to Tekken and fights just like a Street Fighter character, so it will take some time for opponents to familiarize themselves with the match-up. So strictly from a character knowledge aspect, an Akuma player would have a distinct advantage, especially if they also know Tekken. Additionally, couple this with the fact that these matches were single elimination and and one match only, you don’t really get to “download” your opponent and make adjustments.

Check out the matches below.

Here’s what people had to say about the auction tournament, and after they saw Akuma in action.
