Mark ‘MarkMan’ Julio, Brand and Community Advisor for Tekken with Bandai Namco Ent., announced on stream today at Combo Breaker that after EVO (July 15-17) Tekken 7: Fated Retribution will be the official game played in tournament at Tekken Tour events. No specific reason was given for why it will be changing from Tekken 7 Vanilla, but we can confidently assume that it is because Tekken 7:FR releases in arcades this summer in July (as first mentioned in the liner notes of the Tekken 7 soundtrack).

This should make for some more interesting matches, and also more participants in the Tekken Tour. This is especially true since Akuma and Nina will be playable at that time as well. Will any additional characters be added by then? We have no idea, but time will tell.
